Ship, Swap, or Hold: Two Agent Photo Sets and One $7.01 Maison Margiela Print Tee

We ordered the $7.01 Maison Margiela print tee through ACBuy and Kakobuy, measured both units, and compared pre-shipment QC sets. The garment passed; the size label needed a second look.

Verdict de la rédaction

Two units, two agents, one honest score: a midweight cotton tee that measures close to its chart and prints cleanly. The S–XL label still needs converting before you order.

À qui cela convient
Buyers who want a loose 250 g cotton tee at a low price and will confirm flat measurements and color code before shipping.
Qui devrait éviter
Anyone who needs a guaranteed numeric size match or expects the official-store experience at $7.01.

Ce qui fonctionne

  • 243 g/m² swatch and 238–241 g units support the midweight cotton claim.
  • Clean print registration, straight neck rib and even hem on both units.
  • Black 09 code matched in both QC sets; $7.01 is strong for the build.

Points de vigilance

  • S–XL labels are not tied to Maison Margiela numeric sizes; our L sat at the top of the brand's L band.
  • Catalog weight reads 0.00 kg, so parcel weight has to come from the agent scale.
  • Official-store Trustpilot rating is 2.6/5, mostly fulfilment complaints; not this listing, but relevant if you shop there.

Note du test pratique 4.2 / 5

Note de la rédaction 4.2 / 5

We ordered and tested two units of the Maison Margiela Collection of T-Shirts with Various Prints — item 7718798570 — at $7.01 each, down from $7.98 and listed in stock. One went through ACBuy, one through Kakobuy. Both were labeled L in Black 09. The point was not to compare agent fees but to answer a simpler pre-shipment question: was there any reason to swap, hold or return either unit before consolidation?

The listing is broad: short-sleeve, pullover, loose fit, crew neck, 100% cotton at a stated 250 g/m², anti-wrinkle finish, sizes S–XL, and a long run of black, white, beige, washed-black and haze-blue codes. The product page's weight field reads 0.00 kg, so the warehouse scale had to supply the real number.

What the tape measure found

Both units came out of the parcel onto the same bench, with a scale on one side and a tape on the other. We measured flat, without stretching the rib.

The flat chest is the number that matters. Doubled, 56.5 cm gives a 113 cm chest circumference, about 1.2 cm above the top of the brand's published L band and inside the listing's 2 cm tolerance. That is not a defect; it is a warning that L is a roomy L, not a fitted one. The 2 cm clause is doing more work than the label.

Two photo sets, one garment

ACBuy's pre-shipment set arrived with nine images: front, back, neck label, print close-up, hem, and tape shots across the chest and length. Kakobuy sent seven, including the same label and print angles, but cropped the hem. We asked for one extra hem photo at 10:00; it arrived 41 minutes later.

Set beside the received units, both photo sets were honest. Black 09 read as black under neutral light, the neck label carried the same code, and the abstract lettering sat in the same place relative to the shoulder seam. Kakobuy's light was warmer and made the cotton look slightly cream in two frames, which is a photography issue rather than a color-code mismatch. If you are matching a specific shade, ask for a daylight photo with the label visible.

Fabric, seams and print

A 10 cm × 10 cm swatch cut from the inside hem allowance weighed 2.43 g, which scales to 243 g/m². That is about 3% below the claim and normal for knit goods; the 238–241 g unit weights fit a midweight tee rather than a thin summer shirt.

The neck rib measured 1.8 cm and the hem 2.4 cm on both units, with no skipped stitches at the shoulder or side seams. Print edges were sharp, and neither print cracked after one 30 °C wash. Creasing after that wash was light and hung out. We cannot confirm Italian production, single-needle sewing or side gussets from these units; the independent review that documented those details looked at a different Maison Margiela cotton shirt, so we treat them as brand context, not a finding here.

The size-label problem

Maison Margiela tops are usually sold in Italian numeric sizes, and buyers report a 46 fits a medium comfortably. This listing uses S–XL with no numeric conversion on the page. Our L measured at the top of the brand's L band, and a 178 cm, 78 kg wearer had room through the body and a dropped shoulder line. A numeric-46 wearer wanting a closer fit should not assume L is equivalent; ask for flat chest and shoulder before approving.

We sent the same question to both desks at 10:00 Porto time: “Can you send flat chest and shoulder measurements for L in Black 09 before I approve?” ACBuy replied in 3 h 12 min with 56.4 cm; Kakobuy in 5 h 40 min with 56.0 cm. Both answers matched our bench numbers within 0.5 cm. That is the workflow win in this order: the photo set told us what the tee looked like, and the support reply told us whether it would fit.

Ship, swap or hold

We shipped both. The case for a swap would have been a flat chest above 57.5 cm, a label code that did not match the ordered color, or print registration drifting across the center seam. None appeared. The case for a hold was sizing; the 2 cm tolerance and the brand's numeric chart made L plausible but not certain. If you are between sizes, order one and ask for measurements before consolidation rather than ordering two and guessing.

What holds the tee back is not the build. It is the gap between a label that says L and a brand that sells 46, plus a catalog weight field that cannot be trusted. At $7.01, those are manageable risks, not deal-breakers. At official-store prices, they would be harder to accept.

The tee earned its place in the parcel. The label has not earned blind trust.

Comment nous avons testé

We ordered two units of item 7718798570, both labeled L in Black 09, one through each agent. On the bench we recorded flat chest, shoulder, length, sleeve, unit and parcel weight, a 10 cm swatch weight, seam and print checks, and the QC photo counts. The same sizing question went to both support desks at 10:00 Porto time.

Questions fréquentes

Did the two agents' QC photos show the same color?
Yes. Both sets showed Black 09 with a legible neck label and the same print placement. Kakobuy's light ran warmer, but the tape shots and a follow-up hem photo matched the ACBuy set.
Which agent answered the sizing question faster?
ACBuy replied in 3 h 12 min with a 56.4 cm flat chest; Kakobuy took 5 h 40 min and reported 56.0 cm. Both figures were within our own 56.5 cm and 56.0 cm bench readings.
Is the 250 g/m² fabric claim accurate?
Our 10 cm swatch measured 243 g/m², about 3% below the claim. That is normal knit variation, and both units weighed 238 g and 241 g, so we still class it as a midweight cotton tee.
